Pointe Shoes

  • A Pointe shoe is a type of shoe worn by ballet dancers when performing Pointe work. Pointe shoes developed from the desire for dancers to appear weightless and sylph-like and have evolved to enable dancers to dance on the tips of their toes (i.e., en Pointe) for extended periods of time.

  • Pointe shoes must fit properly in order to provide the support required to dance en Pointe. Poorly fitted shoes can result in accident and injury. We recommend professional fitting. We advise that the Dance Teacher approve the shoe before wearing. Today many ballet dancers may wear toe pads or sponges, if so this will usually alter the fit by approximately half a size.
